The Pulpit That Preaches More Than Words
A Legacy of Faithfulness and the Supremacy of God’s Word
As you enter the Worship Center at First Baptist Church Cordele, one feature may immediately draw your attention—a towering pulpit crafted in reverence and purpose. This isn’t just a piece of furniture; it’s a visual declaration of our church’s commitment to the Word of God. Modeled after the pulpit of Charles Spurgeon, "The Prince of Preachers," this handcrafted symbol stands as a daily reminder of what we believe and why we preach.

A Handcrafted Legacy
Our pulpit was not mass-produced or ordered from a catalog. It was lovingly handcrafted by a sister in Christ specifically for FBC, with both design and theology in mind. Inspired by the iconic pulpit of Charles Spurgeon’s Metropolitan Tabernacle, it visually connects us to a legacy of uncompromising biblical preaching.
Inside the pulpit hood are engraved two guiding words:
-
A quote from Charles Spurgeon: “Let the sun stop shining, and we will preach in darkness. Let the waves stop their ebb and flow, and still our voice shall preach the gospel.”
-
A verse from John 12:21: “Sir, we would see Jesus.”
These are not mere decorations—they represent our prayer and purpose each Sunday: that Christ would be seen, and His Word proclaimed.
Built on the Word
Spurgeon stood firm on Scripture, even when culture pressed in. He never compromised the truth of the Gospel, and neither do we. This pulpit is a daily reminder that we stand on the shoulders of those who came before us—faithful voices from the Reformation, Spurgeon’s time, and throughout church history—all committed to exalting Christ through the Word.
May this pulpit always represent our enduring commitment: to preach the Gospel boldly, faithfully, and without compromise.
